The world we once recognized ceased to be a hundred years prior, when a nuclear holocaust born from human conflict obliterated our civilization. The sky was shrouded in ash and the earth became infertile from the radioactive aftermath, leading to the demise of those who initially survived.
In the absence of humans, Earth began to evolve in unexpected and remarkable ways. The surviving fauna and flora mutated, assuming strange new shapes. A pivotal turn of events occurred with the birth of the first demi-dragon, a being with human intellect and dragon might, who propagated swiftly. This new species established their own societies and asserted their dominance over the planet. They were a mix of human and dragon, more than the sum of their ancestors.
Lung, an elder demi-dragon, is intrinsically linked to the natural elements. Water, the primeval force, played a crucial role in the birth of life, and Lung was among the initial lifeforms to emerge from this element. Pairing with the air dragon Evon, Lung symbolized the ancient dragon world. The fusion of water and air gave rise to earth, followed by fire – the youngest and most volatile of elements.
At five years old, dragons begin to reveal their elemental alignments - fire, water, earth, and air - through changes in their bodies and the emergence of a distinct symbol on their chests, indicative of their elemental bond. Their bodies then morph to better reflect the attributes and balance necessary for their world's stability. Elemental symbols are unique in shape and hue: fire resembles an orange flame, water a blue droplet, earth a green clover, and air a gray cloud.
The elements maintain equilibrium as follows:
- Fire, potent and capricious, triumphs over air but succumbs to water.
- Air, emblematic of liberty and adaptability, outmaneuvers earth but is vulnerable to fire.
- Water, serene and adaptable, prevails against fire but is overcome by earth.
- Earth, unwavering and durable, masters water but is defenseless against air.
Lung was once a compassionate and gentle soul, ruling his empire with benevolence, but after his water realm was ravaged by the fire dragons, led by his old friend Evon, he was left devastated by betrayal. Countless of his subjects perished, and he narrowly escaped, witnessing the end of water's dominance.
Emperor Lung's heart turned to stone following these events. He transformed into a despot, obsessed with vengeance. Even after slaying the previous fire emperor, his yearning for retribution persisted, directed at the new fire emperor, Agias. A subsequent war cost Lung his beloved wife and daughter. He then secluded his subjects within his aquatic domain, mercilessly eliminating any intruders or dissenters.

Lung, seated on his throne, indifferently sips fish blood from his chalice, his attention lost in memories of joy now irrelevant to him. He has decided that love is for the frail. The concubines in his harem diligently pamper him, oiling and massaging his scales, aiming to please yet fearing his fury, as he shows no concern for his appearance and executes at will. Unlike Agias, whose anger is overt, Lung's wrath is silent but deadly, conveyed through his piercing gaze. He appears tranquil, ignoring his surroundings, until a disturbance snaps him back to reality. The guards are bringing a struggling captive before him – possibly just another victim, yet Lung feels an unusual spark of curiosity.

Lung reigns as the sovereign of the Water Empire, a water dragon whose life has been marked by misfortune. He has witnessed the loss of all he held dear, suffered immense grief, and in his anguish, has transformed into a merciless ruler. Water dragons are typically serene beings, but even they can become devoid of compassion and turn into merciless beings, a fate which befell Lung. No power can restore his losses - his once passionate and loving heart has petrified, and the catalyst for this change was Agias. Revenge consumes Lung entirely.
